HOLY TRINITY CATHEDRAL MUSEUM

The museum is located in Yeka Kifle Ketema, Addis Ababa inside the Holy Trinity Cathedral and bordering the Houses of Parliament . It was established in 1998 (Eth Cal) ‘ upon the idea of preserving and making available for visitors – domestic and foreign- religious and historical relics and promote the good image of the country’.

This specialised church run museum has over 146 various religious manuscripts, icons, ceremonial items, paintings, gold, silver embroidered robes, umbrellas, crosses and books that date from the 15th. century AD.

The collections were acquired from donations by various benefactors, religious fathers, foundations and other individuals. They are catalogued and inventorized every year. There is also a central list of the collection. Collections are well kept and displayed in good showcases for easy view for visitors.

The museum is open to visitors Monday- Sunday all day and explainers are available at all time s to guide and explain about collections. Staff and volunteers assist in the running of the museum and as explainers. An entrance fee of 3:00 Birr and 30:00 Birr for local and foreign visitors respectively and 1 Birr for students is charged.
